How To: Advertise on Facebook

Facebook is a great site for reaching your audience. In this post, we’ll go through a few steps that will help you reach a highly targeted audience via Facebook ads.

1. To begin, visit http://www.facebook.com/advertising/. Click on ‘Create an Ad’.Facebook Advertising 01

2. On the next page, enter in the destination URL. This is the link to your landing page, after a visitor clicks on an ad. For tracking purposes, use Google Analytics Link Builder. Make sure that your Title and Body Text are appropriate and enticing. While Facebook indicates that including an image is optional, it is highly recommended that you use an image as it helps attract more attention. Click ‘Continue’ to proceed .Facebook Advertising 02

3. In the next section, Facebook will ask you to define your target. You can go as broad or as narrow as you wish. Make sure that you take advantage of the Connections feature. This will allow you to match demographics with interests. Click ‘Continue.’Facebook Advertising 03

4. The next option refers to your advertising strategy — CPC vs. CPM. If you’re unfamiliar with these terms, the book goes over this process in detail. Make sure that you determine which process is appropriate for your business. Define a daily budget to prevent un-necessary fluctuation in cost. Click on ‘Create.’ Facebook Advertising 04

5. Once you’re satisfied with your ad, provide payment information. After submitting your ad, Facebook will review your ad, and if approved, make it live.Facebook Advertising 05

    Data backup

As businesses start implementing digital techniques, it is essential to have a reliable backup solution. Unfortunately, as technology advances, these solutions change. They don’t get better, but they’re still modified.

NASIf your business is looking for a solution with minimal involvement, Jungle Disk is highly recommended. When configured correctly, it automatically backs up data at a defined interval. For example: I back-up my information on a daily basis, approximately around 5:00pm. In this scenario, Jungle Disk looks for files that have been modified since the last back-up and only uploads information that has been modified. For most small and medium businesses, this is an ideal solution. Click here to learn more.

If your business is looking for a more traditional solution, then you need to purchase a NAS (Network Attached Storage). With a NAS, you need to purchase a unit (which resembled a mini computer tower) as well as hard-drives. For a complete solution, click here. If you decide to go with this option, there are a few things you need to keep in mind:

    • Someone on your staff needs to have basic computer networking knowledge.
    • Most solutions don’t automatically backup your data by default. You need to configure this for your business.

    Available: Digital Media for Business

After many months of writing and re-writing, I’m pleased to announce the release of Digital Media for Business. If you’re running a business of any size and fall into any of the below categories, this book is for you:

    • Have a successful business, but no website.
    • Still use an AOL, Yahoo!, Hotmail, or GMail email address for work.
    • Have a business website, but have no clue about promoting it.
    • Are confused by “tweets” and “blog posts.”
    • Want to go grow your business further.

This book has been a collaboration between many people and diverse experiences. It’s based on years of practical experience — positive and negative. To that end, I’d like to thank Mike Raffensperger. for co-authoring the book with me and Tim Gimour for editing and layout.
